Ein komplizierter Geiselgeldtausch wird arrangiert, doch die bunt zusammengew\u00fcrfelte Bande, die Wally (Jess Hahn) zusammengebracht hat, findet nicht als Einheit zusammen. Wallys Schwester Vi (Rita Moreno) ist Buds Freundin; Ihre professionelle Einstellung verschwindet und sie greift zu Kokain und verpasst einen wichtigen Termin. Dies ist im Wesentlichen die Formel hinter der &#8222;Coolness&#8220;, die Melvilles Filme einzigartig macht.<br \/>\nDie Schie\u00dferei am Strand und Brandos Auftritt reichen aus, um AM ABEND DES FOLGENDEN TAGES als Kultfilm zu bezeichnen. Willy Kurant beleuchtet die gesamte Sequenz so, als w\u00e4re sie f\u00fcr einen klassischen amerikanischen Western gedacht und nicht f\u00fcr einen zeitgen\u00f6ssischen Gangsterfilm \u00fcber eine perfekte Entf\u00fchrung, die furchtbar schief gelaufen ist.<br \/>\nWenn Hubert Cornfield eine Franzose gewesen w\u00e4re, w\u00fcrde sein Film AM ABEND DES FOLGENDEN TAGES jetzt als Genre-Meisterwerk gelten.
